Wine of the week starting 27 May 2020 is Soave Mondello Aldegheri
As we prepare to enter Phase 1 of exiting the lockdown in Scotland. Our wine expert Maggy Smith, Dip. The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) suggests Soave Mondello Aldegheri.
Maggy explains the more about why she recommends Soave Mondello Aldegheri
"I have chosen this lovely white wine as the wine of the week as it just sums up the start of long hot summer days.
It comes from the sunny slopes behind the picturesque village of Soave in the north east of Italy.
The wine is made from the Italian grape Garganega and by law must contain at least 70% of this. The skilful team at the Aldegheri winery throw in a little Chardonnay and some Trebbiano and that is it!
On the nose you have enticing aromas of almond blossom and elderflower and some pear kicks in too. On the palate it is gorgeous but serve it very cold. It’s crisp, zingy, tangy, svelte and sexy! It all adds up to an incredibly elegant and delicate summer white wine.
Pairs very well with fish and shellfish but I just love it icy cold on a hot day as my go to aperitif."
